A CO2 laser cutter is the best laser for cutting acrylic because acrylic absorbs the CO2 wavelength cleanly, melting the cut path into smooth, flame-polished edges. While diode machines can engrave dark acrylic, a CO2 laser is the only practical acrylic cutting laser for transparent sheets and thicker panels. This guide reviews five acrylic sheet packs for your cutting projects and compares them by sheet size, thickness, color range, and listing accuracy.

What the listings tell you, and what they leave out
We examined the five acrylic sheet listings for this guide. Not a single listing published a warranty term, and none stated laser safety features or certifications. Only two listings, Polvtor and Adrattnay, published an item weight.
Several listings showed notable internal contradictions. Deylixay printed a typographical error in its spec table, giving dimensions as 8X8, inck while the title specified 8 x 12 inches. Polvtor claimed a unit count of 24 Square Feet for two 8 x 12 inch sheets, which contradicts the actual dimensions of the two sheets. Geetery listed its 6 x 6 inch square sheets as Rectangular. Ailaimiya gave conflicting advice on its double-sided paper, stating buyers should remove it before use and then stating it should stay on during laser cutting. When listings contradict themselves, trust the title and bullets over the spec table.
Choosing the best laser for cutting acrylic
CO2 vs diode lasers for acrylic
Laser wavelength determines how acrylic behaves under the beam. A CO2 laser produces an infrared wavelength that both clear and colored acrylic absorb immediately. This rapid absorption vaporises a narrow kerf and leaves a smooth, glossy edge that requires no sanding or polishing.
Standard blue diode lasers produce a visible blue beam. Clear, blue, and light translucent acrylic cannot absorb this wavelength; the beam passes straight through the sheet without marking or cutting it. A diode laser can cut opaque black acrylic, but it requires slower feed rates and multiple passes that produce melted, irregular edges. For reliable sheet cutting, a CO2 laser cutter remains the proper choice.
| Machine type | Engrave | Cut |
|---|---|---|
| Diode | Limited | Limited |
| CO2 | Yes | Yes |
| Fiber | No | No |
| CNC router | Yes | Yes |
CO2 lasers cut and engrave all acrylic, including clear, with flame-polished edges. Blue diode light passes through clear and blue acrylic, so diodes only work on dark or opaque colors. Cast acrylic engraves frosty white; extruded acrylic engraves less evenly.
Safety: Acrylic is flammable and gives off a strong smell when cut. Ventilate well and stay with the machine. Make sure the sheet is acrylic: polycarbonate and PVC sheet look similar but must not be laser cut.
Cast vs extruded acrylic
Acrylic sheets are manufactured as either cast or extruded material. Cast acrylic is produced by pouring liquid acrylic between glass plates. It cuts with clean edges and engraves to a frosted white finish with crisp contrast. Four picks in this guide (Adrattnay, Geetery, Ailaimiya, and Polvtor) state cast acrylic.
Extruded acrylic is rolled through mechanical dies. It has a lower melting point, which causes gummy edges during laser cutting, and its engravings appear clear rather than frosty white. Deylixay does not state its acrylic formulation.
Protective paper and edge quality
Quality acrylic sheets ship with protective paper or film on both faces. Double-sided kraft paper shields the sheet from soot and flare marks caused by laser reflection from honeycomb beds. Keep the protective paper on the sheet during cutting, and peel it off only after the job finishes.
Laser cutting acrylic produces flammable vapors and chemical fumes. Always operate your laser in a well-ventilated workshop, vent exhaust air outside with a dedicated fan, keep a fire extinguisher near the machine, and never leave an active cut unattended. Never cut PVC, vinyl, or polycarbonate sheets, which produce toxic hydrogen chloride gas and ruin laser components. Follow FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) guidelines and OSHA workshop safety recommendations.
How the scores add up
Each product is scored on performance, build, value, safety and warranty, with the weights published on our How We Pick page. A spec the listing does not publish scores nothing.
| Product | HQ Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrattnay 10-Pack | 9.5 | 32 | 21 | 22 | 0 | 0 |
| Geetery 30-Pack 6×6 | 9.5 | 29 | 21 | 22 | 0 | 0 |
| Ailaimiya 12-Pack | 9.4 | 28 | 19 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| Polvtor 2-Pack Clear | 9.3 | 27 | 18 | 18 | 0 | 0 |
| Deylixay 12-Pack 8×12 | 9.2 | 23 | 15 | 19 | 0 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
FAQ: lasers and CNC
What is the best laser for cutting acrylic?
A CO2 laser cutter is the best laser for cutting acrylic. Acrylic absorbs the CO2 wavelength cleanly, producing flame-polished edges on both clear and colored cast acrylic.
Can a diode laser cut clear acrylic?
No. Clear acrylic does not absorb the blue light emitted by diode lasers. The beam passes through the material into the spoilboard below without cutting.
Why is cast acrylic preferred over extruded acrylic for laser processing?
Cast acrylic cuts cleanly with minimal edge melting and engraves to a frosty white contrast mark. Extruded acrylic melts more easily and engraves with a clear, sunken appearance.
Should I remove the protective paper before laser cutting acrylic?
Keep the protective paper on during laser cutting. The paper protects the surfaces from smoke deposits and flashback scorching from the support bed. Remove it after cutting.
What materials can a laser engraver cut besides acrylic?
Laser cutters can cut wood, plywood, MDF, paper, cardboard, and leather. For a complete list of materials and machine requirements, read our guide on what materials can a laser engraver cut.
