A CNC router throws off fine dust on every pass, and finishes and adhesives add fumes on top. The best respirator for CNC router work is one that fits your face, covers the dust and vapor types your projects produce, and states a certification you can check. This guide compares four respirators: half face and full face, reusable and disposable, with the filter classes, cartridge systems and certifications each listing states.

Buying guide: the best respirator for cnc router

Match the respirator to the dust and fumes

Routing wood and MDF is mostly a dust and particulate problem, which is what P100, P2 and HEPA-rated filters cover. If you also finish pieces with stains, solvents or adhesives at the same bench, the listings here sell organic vapor coverage too: A1 gas filters on the BEESAFETY, organic vapor cartridges on the Tesoro Moda, and bayonet gas and vapor cartridges for the 3M 6300.

Half face or full face

Half face masks cover the nose and mouth and need separate eye protection. The Tesoro Moda S-100 is the only full face mask here, with an anti-fog lens for combined eye and respiratory coverage. If you already wear safety glasses, see our best safety glasses for CNC router guide.

Check what ships in the box

Not every listing is a complete kit. The BEESAFETY ships with 2 A1 gas filters and 8 P2 dust filters, and the Tesoro Moda includes 2 filter cartridges. The 3M 6300 ships as the facepiece only, with bayonet cartridges and filters sold separately, so plan for the cartridges you need.

Certifications and fit

The 3M 6300 states NIOSH approval, the Miller LPR-100 states NIOSH standards, and the BEESAFETY states CE. The Tesoro Moda states no certification, so treat its claims on their face. Sizes run from small/medium on the Miller to large on the 3M and one size fits most on the Tesoro Moda; a respirator that does not seal does not protect.

Filter classes: P100, P2 and HEPA

The listings name three filter classes. The 3M 6300 lists filter class P100 and works with 3M particle filters in the 2000, 2200, 7000 or 5000 series. The BEESAFETY RD-510 lists filter class P2 and ships with 8 P2 dust replacement filters alongside 2 A1 gas filters. The Miller LPR-100 lists HEPA among its special features. The Tesoro Moda S-100 names no filter class. A filter class is the listing’s claim about what the filter catches; match it to the dust your router makes, and replace filters on the maker’s schedule, not when breathing gets hard.

Cartridge systems and compatibility

The 3M 6300 uses bayonet connection cartridges and filters: 3M 6000 Series gas and vapor cartridges for gases and vapors, and 3M particle filters in the 2000, 2200, 7000 or 5000 series for particulates. The BEESAFETY ships its own A1 organic vapor filters and P2 dust filters, 10 filters in the box. The Tesoro Moda includes 2 filter cartridges. The Miller LPR-100 ships with filters and is disposable, so there is no cartridge system to maintain. A bayonet system like the 3M’s gives the widest cartridge choice; a bundled set like the BEESAFETY’s is ready out of the box.

Fit, sizing and other PPE

Sizes differ across the four. The 3M 6300 is large with a four-point harness and easy-to-adjust head straps; its adjustment points are placed for improved compatibility with other personal protection equipment. The Miller LPR-100 is small/medium and fits under most welding helmets, which suits users who weld or grind at the same bench as the CNC router. The Tesoro Moda is one size fits most with an adjustable strap. The BEESAFETY is a half face design with a breathing valve. A respirator that does not seal does not protect, so check the size before you commit, especially with the small/medium-only Miller.

Reusable or disposable

Three of the four are reusable. The 3M 6300 disassembles, cleans and reuses, and ships with a reclosable storage bag. The BEESAFETY RD-510 is reusable with replaceable filters. The Tesoro Moda S-100 is reusable. The Miller LPR-100 is listed as disposable: when its filters are spent, the whole mask goes. A reusable mask costs more up front and less over time if you replace filters; a disposable suits occasional use.

Materials, weight and origin

The 3M 6300 lists thermoplastic elastomers, is made in the USA and weighs 0.11 kg. The Miller LPR-100 is made in the USA. The Tesoro Moda lists silicone, is imported, and its package dimensions are 10.28 x 9.17 x 5.98 inches at 1.87 pounds. The BEESAFETY lists plastic and polyurethane, is imported and lists 14.89 ounces. Weight matters on long carving sessions; the half face masks are the lighter options here.

When to replace filters and cartridges

Filters are consumables, and the listings differ on what you get up front. The BEESAFETY ships 8 P2 dust filters and 2 A1 gas filters, so replacements are in the box. The Tesoro Moda includes 2 filter cartridges. The Miller LPR-100 is disposable, so there is nothing to replace: when it is spent, it goes. The 3M 6300 ships as the facepiece only, so buy the bayonet cartridges and filters with it: 6000 Series gas and vapor cartridges for fumes, and 2000, 2200, 7000 or 5000 Series particle filters for dust. Do not wait until breathing gets hard; a clogged filter breaks the seal and lets dust past.

How the scores add up

Each respirator is scored on performance, build, value, safety and warranty, with the weights published on our How We Pick page. A spec the listing does not publish scores nothing.

Product HQ Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5
BEESAFETY RD-510 9.7 30 21 22 7 4
3M Half Facepiece 6300 9.7 32 22 20 9 0
Tesoro Moda S-100 9.6 29 21 21 0 4
Miller ML00894 LPR-100 9.6 28 20 20 8 0

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

FAQ: lasers and CNC

Do I need a respirator for a CNC router?

Routing wood, MDF and composites produces fine dust that hangs in the air. These listings cover dust and particulate filtration plus organic vapor coverage, so pick filters for what your projects produce.

What is the difference between half face and full face?

A half face mask seals over the nose and mouth; a full face mask like the Tesoro Moda S-100 also covers the eyes with its lens. Half face masks here need separate eye protection.

What do the NIOSH and CE markings mean on these listings?

They are the certifications each listing states. The 3M 6300 is NIOSH-approved, the Miller LPR-100 lists NIOSH standards, and the BEESAFETY lists CE. The Tesoro Moda lists no certification.

Do these respirators come with filters?

The BEESAFETY RD-510 ships with 2 A1 gas filters and 8 P2 dust filters, the Tesoro Moda S-100 includes 2 filter cartridges, and the Miller LPR-100 title says it ships with filters. The 3M 6300 ships as the facepiece only; cartridges and filters are sold separately.

Which of these are reusable?

The 3M 6300, BEESAFETY RD-510 and Tesoro Moda S-100 are reusable, with replaceable filters or cartridges. The Miller LPR-100 is listed as disposable.

Can I wear glasses or a helmet with these respirators?

The Miller LPR-100 is listed as fitting under most welding helmets, which suits bench work that mixes routing with welding or grinding. The 3M 6300 lists adjustment points placed for compatibility with other personal protection equipment. The Tesoro Moda has an anti-fog lens built in, so it needs no separate eye protection. The BEESAFETY lists no compatibility claim, so check the fit with your own glasses.
